THIS IS THE VERY FIRST MUSIC VIDEO I MADE IN MY LIFE BACK IN 2007.
NORINE BRAUN APPROACHED ME TO PRODUCE AN ANIMATED VIDEO WITH FIRST NATIONS NORTHWEST COAST DESIGN AND I CAME FORWARD WITH A MESMERIZING PROPOSAL OF MIXED SYMBOLIC AND MYTHOLOGICAL FIGURES TRANSFORMING THROUGH A LANDSCAPE OF NATURE AND COLORS.

THE ANIMALS AND HUMAN FIGURES IN THE NORTHWEST COAST ART ARE ABSTRACT OF EITHER NATURAL OR SUPERNATURAL CREATURES. THESE FIGURES ARE MOSTLY DESIGNED WITH A CONSISTENT LANGUAGE OF FORM-LINE, OVOIDS, AND U-FORMS.
ALSO THEY ARE REPRESENTED WITH PRIMARY COLORS SUCH AS BLACK, RED, ALONG WITH GREEN, BLUE OR BLE-GREEN. SOME GROUPS USE ALSO WHITE AND YELLOW.

I COULD RECREATE THE MAIN DESIGN FEEL BASED ON TOTEM POLES SCULPTURES AND WOOD CARVING ART FROM KWAKWAKA’WAKW, HAIDA, HEILTSUK AND NUU-CHAH-NULTH STYLES. THE MAIN ANIMALS I REPRESENTED ARE THE THUNDERBIRD, THE KOLUS BIRD, THE CANNIBAL BIRD, THE WOLF, THE WHALE, THE WATCHMEN FIGURES AS WELL AS THE LIGHTNING SNAKE, THE SUN AND THE MOON.

THIS MUSIC VIDEO WAS BROADCASTED ON MTV AND MUCH MUSIC ON 2008.
UPON RELEASE OF THIS ANIMATION, I WAS APPROACHED BY THE WALRUS MAGAZINE WITH A DESIGN COMMISSION FOR AN ILLUSTRATION OF FIRST NATION ART THAT WOULD DEPICT A MODERN TRANSLATION OF STORY TELLING.
